Edgar Gomez (noto Eddie) (Santurce, 4 ottobre 1944) è un contrabbassista jazz portoricano. La sua fama è legata principalmente ai lavori con Bill Evans, con cui collaborò dal 1966 al 1977. In giovane età Gomez emigrò con la sua famiglia negli USA per vivere a New York. Qui iniziò a suonare il contrabbasso, nella New York City High School of Music and Art. Ha suonato nella Newport Festival Youth Band (diretta da Marshall Brown) dal 1959 al 1961, e si laureò alla Juilliard nel 1963.

Durante la sua carriera ha collaborato con jazzisti come Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Goodman, Buck Clayton, Marian McPartland, Paul Bley, Wayne Shorter, Steve Gadd, Jeremy Steig, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, Al Foster, Chick Corea, Carli Muñoz e Colombo Menniti. La sua fama è dovuta anche alla registrazione di due album con il gruppo fusion Steps Ahead, dove militava anche il sassofonista Michael Brecker : l'omonimo Steps Ahead del 1983 e Modern Times del 1984.

Italian saxophonist Marco Pignataro is currently the Managing Director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) a new program designed to foster creativity and musicianship through a variety of musical disciplines. Together with Danilo Perez as Artistic Director, Marco leads the BGJI as a center of musical creativity that emphasizes personalized goal- setting and directed study, experiential and service learning with a special emphasis on nature and the environment, business acumen, and intensive access to world-class visiting artists.

Marco has, until recently, been the director of the Jazz and Caribbean Music Department and Jazz Saxophone Chair at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. He is a multi- talented saxophonist, composer, educator, and jazz columnist. A native of Bologna, Italy, he studied classical music at the Bruno Maderna Conservatory of Music and jazz at the University of Miami and Florida International University, as well as with jazz artists and educators such as Steve Grossman, Gary Campbell, Ed Calle, Gary Keller, Ron Miller, Vince Maggio, Mike Orta, Renato D'Aiello, and IAJE Hall of Famer Richard Dunscomb. As a saxophonist, Marco has performed extensively across Europe and the Americas in jazz festivals and international music venues in Milan, Bologna, Siena, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, sharing stages and clinics with artists such as Eddie Gomez, Oscar Stagnaro, Danilo Perez, Arturo Sandoval, Ray Vega, Kenwood Dennard, Antonio Sanchez, Paquito D'Rivera, Billy Drummond, Clark Terry, Billy Hart and Jon Faddis, among others.

:: Matt Marvuglio

Matt Marvuglio is Dean of the Performance Division at Berklee College. As a virtuosic flutist and composer, he has traveled throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan, premiering his compositions for jazz flute. He has presented clinics for the National Flute Association, the Acoustic Society of America, and the International Flute Convention in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His composition "Simples of the Moon" for processed flute, EWI MIDI wind controller, and acoustic and electronic percussion, may be heard on the CD Divinations, by Dean Anderson. Matt's first solo album entitled Why Cry? features three of his own compositions and a number of interpretations of old favorites. His articles on jazz flute playing have appeared in The Instrumentalist. He is the curriculum editor and composer for the Berklee Practice Method series, and has written and hosted Berklee's When Music Works DVD Series.
